This talk will present the use of microfluidic techniques to analyze single cells based on high information content and sort the cells if specific results are desired.  Most of the cell analysis is performed in aqueous drops in an inert carrier fluid, provided an controlled volume for cell encapsulation of picoliters to nanoliters.  The small volume of the drops ensures high signal-to-noise ratios even with a small number of probe molecules.  Several different applications will be discussed.
