When studying towards a Doctor of Medicine from 2008-2011 at the De La Salle Health Sciences Institute, Dasmariñas, Cavite, Philippines, I became ill. The doctors were not able to give me an exact diagnosis of my illness and thankfully I recovered. This event altered my career trajectory. I decided to study Infection and Immunity as a major for Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Otago. I then completed a First-Class Honours Degree in 2019 at the University of Otago. I am currently doing my Ph.D. focusing on cancer immunology. My interest is now in a research career and one that will have an impact on the overall immunity of the human body. I am especially interested in how the human immune system responds to infection and cancer and how the immune system can be boosted. I am also interested in researching vaccines and how to combat the emerging threat of resistant strains of bacteria.
